Da Bano Gallery is a contemporary art space dedicated to fostering meaningful artistic dialogue, critical inquiry, and creative experimentation. Founded with the belief that art has the power to shape cultural conversations, the gallery seeks to provide a platform for artists whose practices engage deeply with research, history, society, and the complexities of contemporary life.

At its core, Da Bano Gallery is committed to supporting emerging and mid-career artists, particularly those whose work challenges conventions and expands the boundaries of artistic expression. Da Bano began with an interest in the many ways artists arrive at an idea.

Behind every work is a process of looking, thinking, researching, questioning, and making. It is this process that has always made the work of other artists particularly compelling to me. The gallery grew from this interest in understanding not only what an artist makes, but what leads them there.

Da Bano is a contemporary gallery with an emphasis on practices that are thoughtful and research-driven. The intention is to present work with a sense of context, allowing the ideas and processes behind it to remain an important part of the experience. The gallery is open to different mediums, approaches, and perspectives, with an interest in work that reflects the way artists are engaging with the present.

The inaugural exhibition is the first expression of this direction. Bringing together artists with distinct practices, it offers different ways of thinking and making within one space. Rather than looking for a single point of connection, the exhibition allows these differences to exist alongside one another, creating a conversation through the work. The name Da Bano comes from my mother, Hameeda Bano, from whom I inherited my artistic inclinations. Some of my earliest memories of looking at things aesthetically come from watching her at home. She had a way of taking ordinary objects and making them visually appealing, arranging things instinctively, and creating beautiful corners without thinking of them as acts of curation. Looking back, those small gestures had a lasting influence on the way I see.

Naming the gallery after her is a way of carrying that influence into something new. Da Bano is a space that has grown from my own relationship with art, but it also carries something of that early understanding of beauty, arrangement, and looking.

The inaugural exhibition marks the beginning of Da Bana. It brings together artists with different practices and perspectives, allowing each work to hold its own space while contributing to a larger conversation. It feels fitting that the gallery should begin in this way, with different voices coming together, and with the opportunity to simply look, think, and spend time with the work.
